As time is curving so I've been swerving through health trials and tribulations (Pericarditis #2 nearly healed but this one has felt a lot slower than #1 from 2020) - backing away from medias social and otherwise but still (always) writing, recording, dreaming of alternate worlds and then touching back down on this one - head out of the clouds to take concrete actions before ascending again. Flux. Fly. Whee!
Since childhood (I was a sickly child), I used time convalescing to not only veg/heal but to journey through creative means. Ever active - ever expressive - despite physical challenges. I started my Chanson-O-Gramme project in 2013 bed ridden and bored post endometriosis surgery. This past month as I'm on 3/3 months of “no exercise, no lifting, no stress” to let my heart fully heal, I've been enjoying sifting through old hard drives uncovering photos, snippets of unfinished songs, video transfers, digitized poster art and more…One of my favourite discoveries this month was a 16mm film transfer from my time at Concordia in 1999-2000.
The body of Y2K Krista meets the voice and music of Y2023 Krista in "Still Life With Pixel". 16mm footage by Maddox, McDonald and Muir. Music by Les Chouettes and NACNAC.

MASTERING AHOY! I'm over the moon to share that the Canada Council for the Arts has awarded me a Research & Development Grant towards a 10-day Music Mastering Mentorship at Fran Ashcroft's Studio in Merseyside, UK. A self taught recordist and mixer, I have long wanted to try my ear at mastering - the final process in preparing recorded material for vinyl, cd, and digital releases. After a moderate delay, it's happening this July-August! Fran, whom I've collaborated with for several years longue distance with our band Les Chouettes, has credits that include Abbey Road Studios, Damon Albarn, The Cynics, Trident Studios and Paul Cook. His book The Analogue Approach To Digital Recording and Mixing (2023) reminded me of how much fun it is to experiment in a variety of spaces with gear both antiquated and new.
